Fondos is the new Swiss champion

The first edition of the €100,000 guaranteed Swiss Championship of Poker in Mendrisio ended with the triumph of Eduard Fondos who took home the prestigious prize and €28,000. The Swiss Championship of Poker went all the way to the final head’s up and gave the victory of the Italian player of Moldavian origin over runner up Giorgio Leuchi who “consoled” himself with €17,000. Forty-eight people showed up for the Final Day of this SCOP and after three seat openings, the fateful ‘bubble’ burst. The uncomfortable role of bubble man fell to Vittorio Ortelli after 90 minutes of ‘bubble’. Among the first ‘prize’ eliminations were Raffaele Castro, Tony Benza and Leonardo Bartolone, winner of the SCOPLO tournament last week. Speaking of Omaha, Rino “Raise” Sallustro, winner of La Notte dell’Omaha in Mendrisio, failed to enter the Top20. Who comes close to the famous “back to back” is Fernando Rodriguez, already the historic winner of a past SCOP edition in 2018. After the dinner break, the Final Table is composed with a large presence of foreign players. Among the “favourites”, Francesco Mussi and Andrea Pruiti, Day1B’s chipleader, came out almost immediately. The third placed player is the Swiss Matthiew Frazier who takes home €12,000 before the final heads up won by Fondos, the best of the 517 players registered for this SCOP.
